The Off Campus Division of the University of Greater Manchester manages the partnership work of our growing University. We are seeking a Lecturer to lead delivery on our undergraduate and postgraduate research provision across several international partnerships. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse student body and contribute directly to academic quality, student success and the integrity of our awards.

You will be confident in teaching, programme leadership, supervising research projects and guiding students through their academic journey. You will be organised, responsive and able to manage a portfolio of students, ensuring engagement, progress and timely completion. You will also have strong subject knowledge in business and management and be comfortable working within established academic frameworks, policies and quality assurance expectations.

This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work professionally with colleagues, students and external partners. You will be digitally capable, able to use systems to monitor student progress and maintain accurate records, and committed to upholding academic integrity and ethical standards at all times.

1. Qualifications

Essential

• A PhD or Professional Doctorate in a relevant field related to death investigation (e.g., Law, Forensic Medicine, Forensic Science, Public Health, Criminology, Medical Law, Bioethics, Human Rights, or closely allied discipline).
• A good honours degree (2:1 or above) in a relevant subject area.
• Demonstrable engagement in research activity within the broad field of death investigation, forensic governance, or related domains.

Desirable

• Professional registration or fellowship with a relevant body (e.g., HEA Fellowship, Royal College membership, Chartered status, Forensic Science Regulator recognition, etc.).
• A recognised teaching qualification or HEA Fellowship (or willingness to obtain).

2. Subject Expertise

Applicants must demonstrate specialist expertise in at least one (ideally more) of the following overarching, or closely related subject areas:

   (Inquest procedure, PFD frameworks, death certification, coronial systems, regulatory reform)

• Forensic Science & Emerging Technologies
   (DNA analysis, molecular autopsy, AI/biometrics in identification, evidential reliability)
• Public Health & Mortality Systems
   (Mortality data quality, ICD coding, prevention frameworks, health systems governance)
• Human Rights, Ethics & Equality in Death Investigation
   (ECHR, religious rights, data protection, genetic privacy, procedural fairness)
• Vulnerable Death Contexts & Psychosocial Dimensions
   (Infanticide, maternal mental health, forensic psychiatry, bereavement impact)

Desirable

• Cross-disciplinary capability bridging law, science, and public health.
• Experience contributing to policy reform, national guidance, or regulatory development.

3. Research Supervision & Academic Experience

Essential

• Experience supervising research projects at postgraduate (Masters or Doctoral) level.
• Demonstrable understanding of research design, methodology selection (qualitative and/or quantitative), and data analysis.
• Understanding of academic integrity, research ethics approval processes, and governance requirements.
• Evidence of peer-reviewed publication or equivalent research outputs.
• Ability to support students in developing research questions, methodological rigour, and critical analysis.

Desirable

• Experience supervising interdisciplinary or practice-based research.
• Familiarity with relevant research software (e.g., NVivo, SPSS, R, Stata).
• Experience examining postgraduate dissertations or vivas.

Due to growth in our postgraduate education student numbers and expanding research and Knowledge Exchange activities, we are looking to appoint an academic who will provide supportive and effective leadership for the School of Education.

Our staff are at the heart of everything we do: they are highly qualified and experienced in their fields, supporting their teaching practice by carrying out quality research and engaging in continuous professional development. Staff pride themselves on being highly skilled professionals that provide excellent learning, teaching and applied research and support in the provision of custom-designed, practice-led courses in numerous subject areas. Many of our programmes are accredited by the DfE and regulated by OFSTED. 

The key duties of the post holder will be to play a key role in supporting, expanding and enhancing the School of Education. Leading on the development and delivery of a financially sustainable portfolio of under-graduate and post-graduate courses. This will involve collaboration with key staff, to ensure innovative programme and curriculum development, resulting in increased student satisfaction and retention. The post holder will also be required to contribute to the teaching and delivery of Professional, undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes in the area of Education. 

In addition to leading the school on its central teaching agenda, the role-holder will provide direction to a number of Centres within the School, including research and KE (e.g. the International Centre for Educational Leadership, and the Centre of AI in Education.) The School also houses the University’s academic staff development and teaching observation function, acting as a liaison point between the Higher Education Academy and our staff.

Applicants should have significant leadership and management experience, working in Compulsory/Further Education and Higher Education. You will also possess a PhD/Professional Doctorate or equivalent level qualification, and be able to demonstrate significant contributions in the professional field.
