Lecturer Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Associate Lecturer / Lecturer in Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering to join our growing School of Engineering and Built Environment. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality teaching, research, and professional practice across our biomedical and mechanical engineering portfolio.

You will play a key role in the delivery and development of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, contributing to curriculum innovation, assessment, student support, and research, enterprise, or professional practice activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and assessment across biomedical and mechanical engineering programmes
  • Develop engaging teaching materials, assessments, and practical learning activities
  • Contribute to curriculum design, module review, and programme enhancement
  • Supervise undergraduate, postgraduate, and, where appropriate, research students
  • Undertake research, scholarly activity, and/or professional practice that informs teaching and enhances the University’s reputation
  • Prepare funding proposals and engage with external bodies, industry, and professional organisations
  • Participate in student recruitment activities, including open days and partnership development
  • Support student welfare and contribute to quality assurance processes
  • Engage in continuous professional development and uphold University policies, including equality, diversity, health and safety, and data protection

You will have a proven academic or professional background in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline, with the ability to contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and engage in curriculum development and student supervision. You will demonstrate subject knowledge in areas such as biomechanics, biomaterials, biomedical instrumentation, imaging, signal processing, finite element methods, additive manufacturing, sustainability, or related engineering topics.

You will hold an honours degree in a relevant discipline and demonstrate effective teaching, assessment, and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You will show a commitment to high-quality teaching, student support, quality assurance, and continuous professional development, including working towards relevant teaching and professional accreditation.

A PhD or Professional Doctorate (or near completion), or equivalent professional experience, is expected. Appointment at Associate Lecturer or Lecturer level will be dependent on prior experience and qualifications. Applicants without a PhD may be required to complete one within an agreed timeframe.
