International Student Advisor

Support International Students to Succeed

The University of Greater Manchester is seeking a motivated and student-focused individual to join the Directorate of Student Services & Experience as an International Student Advisor.

This is a key frontline role providing specialist information, advice and guidance to international students, supporting them to navigate university life and succeed in their studies.

The Role

Reporting to the Team Leader: Student Experience & International Support, you will act as a primary contact for international student enquiries.

You will provide timely, accurate and culturally sensitive advice across a range of areas including student support, financial matters and wellbeing, while supporting students’ transition, integration and overall experience.

Working in a fast-paced environment, you will deliver support through face-to-face, digital and group-based methods, including inductions, workshops and events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, specialist advice and guidance to international students
  • Act as a first point of contact, triaging and managing student enquiries and casework
  • Deliver orientation, welcome and induction and ongoing pastoral support
  • Support pre-arrival communications and onboarding activity
  • Develop and deliver guidance materials, workshops and digital content
  • Gather student feedback to enhance the international student experience
  • Maintain awareness of UKVI requirements and sector developments

About You

You will be a confident and approachable professional with a strong commitment to supporting international students.

You will demonstrate:

  • Experience in a busy, customer-facing environment, ideally within Higher Education
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain information clearly and sensitively
  • Understanding of the needs of international students
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • A proactive and collaborative approach

Knowledge of UKVI processes or international student support is desirable.
